Nikon D850 Real World Review | Impressions After 6 Months of Landscape Photography

Six months ago, I upgraded to the Nikon D850. Many of you have asked me what my thoughts are about this camera for landscape photography.

SENSOR
There was an increase in megapixels from 36 to 45.7 that's nearly 26% more pixels. I didn’t think it was going to be a big deal; however, I have noticed a difference, large prints look amazing, plus I have the benefits of cropping in if I need to.

The downside is the files are big. The Sensor is also a Back-side illuminated sensor which means it has better low light performance. I think the most significant improvement though is in the quality of the files shot at higher ISOs particularly helpful for astrophotography.

LCD SCREEN
The back screen now tilts, it makes it much more comfortable to work with behind the camera, and it's a far better experience when taking shots with the camera low to the ground. While it tilts up and down, it would be nice if it tilted to the side like the X-T3. The resolution has been increased from 1Mill to 2.4 Mill dots. This is significant as I use the screen a lot for composing and focusing my images. The information displayed is clearer to read, and the picture is vivid and brighter to see. In low light scenarios when with the D800 the image on the screen would have a lot of noise. It’s now much cleaner with less noise and more detail.

FOCUSING
Nikon has brought over the improved focusing system of the D500. The camera Autofocuses better when it’s dark, a situation. The speed and accuracy of the autofocus in low light conditions is phenomenal. The Focus Shifting function is a smart feature. I can set it up, and it'll work out where to focus and shoots the images automatically.

IMPROVEMENTS
It would be nice if the screen tilted to the side, but if it was a fully articulating screen that would be more flexibility in the ways it could be used. Snapbridge is still not an enjoyable experience, so I tend just to avoid using it. They could improve Focus Shifting (stacking) to allow you to bracket your exposures as well. The addition of illuminated buttons it great for astrophotography but they only light up on the left.

Alicia Backlund : Hi this is a wonderful video! I am currently upgrading to this camera for the use of shooting yoga portrait and landscape photography! What lenses would you suggest for this kind of shooting? I do a lot of video shooting as well in which I am recording flow yoga so I need a lens that can capture as much detail in the landscape as well as the subject! Thank you for your help!
Faris Al Faris : Great!
At 5:40 you said:
The camera could be touched to focus, but it wouldnt fire the shutter.
Can it be set in advance to fire the shutter once you touch to focus, as the d5600 ?
Safdar Khan : CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHICH CAMERA YOU ARE USING FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO
Javier Garza : I just bought the D850 I also have the D7500, and I also used to own a D750 until it got stolen, although crop sensors are great for sports (surfing), I really think I was missing out on capturing the beautiful landscapes of Hawaii.
Ja ke : Great review man. Was that the 17-35mm 2.8 i saw on there?....how have “older” lenses treated you on the ultra-high MP count of the D850? I’ve heard that “older” lenses will cause blurred images b/c they can’t resolve what the new high MP sensors are capable of. What’ve your experiences been with this? Thx!

Nikon D850 | 5 Reasons To Buy In 2021

If you're still sitting on the fence as to whether or not to buy a Nikon D850 in 2021, here are my 5 reasons why you possibly would. The D850 is now in its fourth year since being released in September 2017. It's been described as the greatest DSLR ever made by some. But does the Nikon D850 have what it takes to compete in 2021? In this video I talk about my experience with the D850 and why I still use it today.

paparazzina1 : Which tripod do you use with the d850
Eduardo Regueiro : D850 is the best DSLR camera ever built, hands down.
Egil Johnsen : I bought a new Z7 II (in addition to the old Z6). But I will still keep the D850, especially for use on air shows and other action-related tasks.

Battery life and a rock-solid focusing system are the main reasons.
Jan La Salle : During the pandemic I turned to still life D850 and 105 mm lens. Bearutiful. Saturday I go back to catching dancers in mid air! So excited . I love this camera!
SPACE DESIGN WAREHOUSE : How is your D850 SO CLEAN???? Mine is scratched, dirty, worn and beautiful :)

Nikon Z7 II vs D850 review: FINALLY time to switch to mirrorless??

Tony \u0026 Chelsea Northrup review the new full-frame mirrorless camera, the Nikon Z II, against the best DSLR ever made: The Nikon D850. They compare handling, comfort, focusing, sports, wildlife, portraits, travel, landscapes, battery life, and more!
Tom Bo Ros : Some point the woman mention isn't really advantage for example continuously checking the image after click is takes the bigger battery capacity away and the 90deg screen flip isn't a big deal just lean a bit forward with the 45deg unless couple of inches are of height what matters
Venus : I love you guys. You're like the sweetest couple without intenionally being sweet.
noragee : Why don't you use H+ mode for animals or sport photography? You don't have any blackouts there. I'm not your opinion: If you use H+ and the correct autofocus mode (like subject tracking), the Z7 II can absolutely deal with the D850 at moving subjects. Maybe it's even better.
Dr Faustens : Please, stop telling me that the camera makes better pictures. It is the photographer, the camera helps in so far as the camera and lens is up to specs and promise. The difference between a good photo and a great one is the coincidence of unique occasion and right juncture, that's luck to you. The Nikon FTZ adapter seem to have a problem with not living up to its promise. Some Nikkors fail miserably adapt. It seem your pitch is to a rather narrow segment of the photographic community; we are not all sports or long distance photographers some of us get up close and personal to our subjects. The deal breaker at least for me is how well legacy manual Nikkors and Leitz lenses adapt to the Nikon Z cameras. Other than outrageous prices, that's the main reason I have not committed to mirrorless. I noticed recently that Nikon cut $500 off the price of some of their Z cameras. Maybe after I run my d810 and d850 into the ground I might interested in a new body, right now I have all the lenses I can handle.
greg olson : It seems like you folks want to switch every couple of months. To hard to keep up. I liked your old format. Less advertisements.
